Kit List

For Winter Skills

Some information on the kit needed for the trip

 

On the hill:  [ Note: all this needs to fit inside you rucksack unless indicated. ]

 

c     Rucksack (min 30 litres) with loops to stash ice axe etc outside

c     Dry bag(s) or rucksack liner to organise your kit and keep it dry

c     Whistle

c     Head torch

c     Compass

c     Survival bag

c     Spare warm top / jacket (over layer for standing / sitting around, or emergency - Primaloft type insulation is excellent for this.)

c     Flask

c     Food container / bag

c     Ice Axe - walking type axe (stash outside)

c     Crampons in a pouch or case (could be stashed outside, but better in)

c     Helmet (which can go over a hat)

c     Walking poles (stash outside) - optional

c     Sun glasses

c     Ski goggles

  • Maps will be provided

 

To wear:

 

c     Boots - must be stiff enough to take a crampon. Please check if unsure, this is important.

c     Winter walking trousers

c     Thermal base layers (not cotton)

c     Mid Layer(s) - fleece or merino wool are best. Consider layering two or three thin / micro fleece layers as this can be more effective at controlling body temperature than one thick one.

c     Winter weight socks

c     Waterproof Jacket

c     Waterproof over trousers

c     Gaiters

c     Warm hat  / balaclava (no bobbles - you may need this under your helmet!)

c     Buff / scarf - optional but recommended

c     Gloves Ð bring at least 2 pairs as they are likely to get wet.

 

At the hostel:

 

c     Holdall for hostel kit

c     Sleeping bag - warm one recommended

c     Sleeping mat - many of the bunks only have thin mattresses which are bit hard and not too warm!

c     Personal washing kit

c     Towel

c     Pyjamas

c     Change of casual clothes for hostel

c     Spare clothes for second / extra days hiking, including socks

c     Underwear

c     Personal drinks (alcohol not included in fee) / jelly babies / cake!!
